Estes Park Elk Bugling

The high pitched squeal you hear is the bull elk. He makes the noise with a special tooth he has. During rutting season he uses this to herd his harem and warn off competing bulls. Sorry the camera and camera man is not better. We filmed this last Friday in Estes Park. Just about 30 sec. video. I just thought I would like to share a rather unique experience with everyone.

First Day of School

Last week was Aidan's first day of Kindergarten, and Stephanie's first day as a homeschooling Kindergarten teacher. Both Aidan and Ashlynn had a blast (although Aidan was a bit disappointed that he is not riding a bus). He insists on entering the "school" by knocking on our door. He even swiped an apple from our kitchen and gave it to Steph!

He picked out a special outfit for his first day. Not sure where he got the idea for a tie/ballcap combo, but he was convinced he looked pretty cool.

Ashlynn is getting so big! She enjoys tagging along for school with her big brother--often with "Jo-Jo" her favorite bunny in tow.

Hope all is well with the scattered Scotts. Those of us keeping an eye on the nation's capital are alive and well!

The Colorado Scott Spot!

All 4 of the Scott brothers and their wives enjoyed a great long weekend in Colorado. We all were together for 4 days at the home of Alan and Beth. We want to share some of our photos with everyone so you can see that the older generation can still have a good time!

Scotts on the Rocks!

Those chocolate cigars were awesome!

Tha-that's all folks!

Scott Family Blogs

I thought it might be helpful to collect the links to the various individual family blogs on this site. I put on the ones I had in the column to the right but there may be more out there. Letting the blogs flow!

In honor of...

After grandpa died and everyone was looking through their house for items of interest (teehee), Ryan & I found a card game that no one else wanted. It's called "R-O-Y-A-L-T-Y" and it is a word game much like scrabble, except with cards instead of tiles. So we opened it up tonight to play it. We figured this would be a fun way to honor grandma & grandpa. Except that the game had clearly never been played. Apparently they didn't enjoy it. Ha ha. So if any of you ever gave them this game, sorry...
We, however, really enjoyed playing it! The rules are pretty intense and a bit complicated at times, but never fear... Ryan, the true carrier of the Scott name lived up to your familial reputation of kicking rear end at games and trounced me by almost 100 points. Darn.

In other news: I (Katelynn) made it successfully through my first year of teaching and am spending my summer on the couch, reading good books. I've read 16 pleasure books (books I read for fun, NOT Kama-Sutra or something like that...) since June 1st and have a pile of at least 12 more on my night stand waiting. Ryan has finished attending the various in-class sessions of the courses he took this summer, but it still working on the papers and research which go along with those classes. He's hoping to be done with all of his paper writing by this upcoming Sunday (June 29th) so that we can leave to go on vacation to New England totally care-free. We're visiting Mark & Cindy in Quicy, some of Beth's family in Vermont and my family on Cape Cod. We can't wait!

So here's to fun games and happy, life-long marriages!

60 Years

Today would have been Mom & Dad's 60th wedding anniversary. They were a wonderful example for us. We miss the prayer and support that they always gave all of us. We have a great heritage. We are truly a blessed family.

Family Tree

Hey all,

I ran across this free site for keeping track of family information. Essentially you can register and invite people to join which will help expand and detail the family tree. It might be a way to keep track of things etc. Anyway, if you're interested in taking a look it's www.geni.com. I didn't want to spam the entire family with invitations to join if its something you're not going to worry about, but if you're interested, you can email me (ryanalanscott(at)gmail(dot)com) and I'll invite you into the tree, so you'll have access to what I've added thus far.

Anyone Home?

Thought I'd try to restart a little family love here, seeing as how my son's birth announcement killed any and all conversation. We must have had a Seinfeld baby.

I am getting ready to leave for Iraq this week sometime, so I would ask for all of your thoughts and prayers for Mindy and I and the boys. This will be pretty tough- even though we've done this before, we didn't have kids the last time. A year or more away will be a pretty big challenge.

I'm planning on posting updates to our blog when I can get the chance (depending on how we're set up there). Hopefully Mindy will get to see some of you while she's back in the States, and I'll be back for mid-tour leave at some point as well. I just wanted to tell you all I was thinking about you and hoping all was well. Please drop us a line sometime when you get the chance!

William Stephen Scott

This morning at 4:05 am, William Stephen Scott came into this world. Will weighed 9 lbs., and was 21" long. Momma and Baby are doing well. You can see some pictures on Chris and Mindy's blog. Another boy! The Scott name shall endure forever. I can't wait to go next week on the 31st. Judy is there now, so she is in Grammy heaven. Thanks for all your prayers for Chris and Mindy during this time.
