I just talked to Jeff and he was gloating about the unseasonably warm weather in DC. We found ourselves saying we would like a bit cooler weather here in FL so that we could enjoy a bit of winter feel.
Steve called to let me know yesterday that Mom was in the hospital. I talked with her this morning. She seemed tired and was already complaining about being "stuck" so much. I did my duty and urged her to make sure she was drinking enough fluids daily. But I am not sure how much impact my "wisdom" really has.
I am glad that Steve and Judy are nearby. Times like this, it would be nice to be closer to all and able to do more.

Grampa (Dad) & Ashlyn
This post is mostly just a test post. Actually, it's more of a back-end administrative post. Blogger (the service that hosts this free website) gives users the capability of uploading a photo of themselves into their profile. However, it requires that this photo be online somewhere on a website.
So I'm posting my Dad's photo on our own website here so that it will be online. Then he can go in and add it to his profile. Neato!
If any of you want to have a photo in your profile and don't already have that photo on a website somewhere...just let me know and I'll do this same trick for your picture.
Here's Dad--or, as Ashlyn calls him, Grandpa:

Jeremy's Photos from Thanksgiving
I blog a lot. Not tons...but I participate on several blogs...some related to work, some just for fun.
I'm writing these posts, not to hog the website...but to give you a showcase of not only the capabilities of this site, but how easy it is to use. You don't even have to write a lot, so it doesn't have to take much time. This post I actually wrote so I could take screenshots of the process to put in the how-to guide I made you guys.
To prove that, I'm going to upload a few of my favorite photos from the trip Amy and I made out for Thanksgiving.

There. See how easy that was? Maybe you should try it.

Photos are Fun!!
Are any of you Scotts users of the photography service Flickr? If so...then you could write a post on this Scott Spot blog and link to your Flickr page so we can browse all the images! Hooray!
Or...if you're like me and you don't take good enough pictures to warrant having a Flickr account...then you can just upload a photo into the body of your posting....like this:
Aidan loves his Heffalump, which he got from his Uncle Cool (that's me).
Isn't that sweet?!
So you can post similar pictures of your own kids, or your brother's kids, or just random kids you saw at Disney World. Whose kids are in the photos are not as important at this point as the fact that you can upload your own photos into this Scott Spot blog for sharing with the rest of the family!!
Awww. Look at Ashlyn. She wants presents too! (Man, does this Uncle Cool guy ever stop sending presents? He must be the world's greatest uncle or something!)

Again, just trying to show off some of the functionality here...so you guys get a feel for how powerful a communication tool this could be for us. When Amy and I are married next summer, we can upload photos to this site so that Scotts who couldn’t make the trip to the wedding will still be able to share in all the fun by browsing the photos. You can see who was there…what Amy’s dress looked like…and how ridiculous I look in a tuxedo.

Scott Spot Goes Live
Soon you will find all sorts of Scott-family related information here. Family photos, letters and notes to each other, new baby announcements, jokes at the expense of other Scotts...all kinds of fun.
For now, I just wanted to get it set up. Over the next few weeks, I'll customize the design a bit. I'll also post some "getting started" tips for those of you who want to participate and use this site to share information with the family, but maybe don't have much internet or blogging experience.
For the newbies: a "blog" is short for "weblog." It's a virtual journal, hosted on the world wide web instead of a paper journal book that you keep between the matresses. We can post messages and announcements to each other ("Jeremy no longer works at the Sock Factory") and we can post photographs ("here's a shot of the latest reunion at Steve's"), etc.
Think of it like this: this is an online version of those Christmas newsletters you all send each other. Some of you are funny, some not so much. Some have photos...some just have text. Here on this blog you have the same sort of information being shared...only much more frequently.
Best of all, this site is free. Using it is free. Registering as a member is free (I'll walk you through that as well). So we can keep tabs on each other and make fun of each other's goofy haircuts in real time, instead of only getting updates once a year.
